Cook Island Language Week!

It was an exciting week in Room 24 and at Owairaka School this week! We observed and celebrated Cook Island Language Week through a range of different activities. In Room 24 we were very lucky to have Hamida come in to teach us about Cook Island culture and dance. Some interesting things we learnt were:

1. That there are more people, who identify as Cook Island Maori, living in NZ than in the Cook Islands!
2. There are 15 main islands that are a part of the Cook Islands
3. The Cook Islands were named after Captain James Cook
4. We greet each other in Cook Island Maori by saying "Kia Orana"

Along with this we also got to learn some awesome dance moves! Check out our videos below!
