Week 9 Award Winners!

Congratulations to our award winners this week! Isaiah and Lujain did an awesome job representing Owairaka School at the Inter-school crick tournament. Well done to you both!

Izaaz and VJ were our class award winners for this week. They displayed all the signs of being great learners. These included being in the right place at the right time doing the right thing. focusing on their learning, following instructions quickly, and by showing respect to all their classmates. Well done Izaaz and VJ!

Buddy Reading with Room 12!

On Thursday the 30th of September, Room 20 kept up with their practice of being good role models by practicing reading with their buddy class Room 12. They took turns reading and also got a chance to show Room 12 their blogs and some of the work that they have completed this year. Awesome work Room 20!

Garden to Table Week 9!

On Wednesday the 29th of March, Room 20 had an awesome sessions of Garden to Table. The kitchen group worked with Mrs. Best and other volunteers to cook up an awesome meal. They made stuffed capsicum, cucumber raita, apple filled pancakes, carrot and apple juice, and some savoury muffins. It was delicious! Due to the weather being bad, the gardening group could not go into the garden this week. They however got to do some indoor learning with Mrs. G. An awesome session at Garden to Table for Room 20 this week!

Week 9 Focus- Great Learners!

Our focus for Week 9 - 11 at Owairaka School is being Great Learners! Being a great learner includes focusing on learning, using a quiet voice, looking and listening to the person speaking, following instructions quickly and quietly, and being in the right place at the right time. Room 20 look forward to working towards being great learners!

Race Relations Day Fun!

As part of Race Relations Day at Owairaka School, Room 20 did some amazing learning today, and had lots of fun at the same time! Our focus for the day was Unity in Diversity.

The day started with an assembly where the school went up class by class and displayed their wonderful cultural costumes and dresses to the entire school. It was awesome to see such a large number of different cultures being represented. 

In the middle block, students from Room 20 got the chance to come up in front of their class mates and talk about the different clothes that they were wearing. It was amazing to see the number of different cultures in our class! We had students from Tonga, Samoa, Germany, Phillipines, Srilanka, Niue, Libya, Somalia, Fiji, and Hawaii. 

Following this was lunchtime, where we had such a special treat! Students and parents from Owairaka School brought in lots and lots of food for a huge shared lunch for the entire school. This food came from a number of different cultures. To say that it was delicious, would be an understatement!

We had great fun on Race Relations Day and are lokoking forward to the next one now!

Buddy Reading with Room 12!

On Thursday, the 23rd of March, Room 20 did some amazing reading with their buddy class, Room 12. By reading to and with our younger peers we are learning to be great role models and leaders. Great work Room 20!

Kauri Assembly and Award Winners!

This afternoon Room 20 participated in the Senior Team Kauri Assembly! We did some awesome singing and dancing, and also watched a really eye opening video which showed us the importance of helping others. It went very well with our theme of Getting Along.

We would also like to say Ka Pai to Atapana and Isaiah, our certificate winners for this week! The two young men did some amazing work in maths today and lead the class by example. Well done!

Duffy Book Box Decoration!

Fast finishers in Room 20 spent some time today decorating the Duffy Book Box! They came up with some really creative ways of decorating this book box. We will be given the box during our duffy assembly. 

Garden to Table Week 7!

At Garden to Table today Room 20 learnt some fascinating things! The gardening group learnt about splitting open purple sprouts to find seeds inside them. They were lucky enough to be able to take some purple sprout seeds home and will be able plant them in their own gardens! Along with this the gardening group also put up some new signs in the garden patches. Awesome work!

Auckland Flood News Report!

This afternoon, students in Room 20 doing some investigation and finding out some information about the floods in Auckland from yesterday. They found out about where the flood happened, how it happened, why it happened, and who it affected. Awesome work Room 20!

Week 7 Focus - Getting Along!

For Week 7 at Owairaka District School, our focus will be Getting Along! We will focus on practicing using kinds words, sharing and taking turns, including all our peers while playing by the rules, and also always offering a hand for those who are in need. Let's have an awesome week!

Green Day Clean Up!

As part of Green Week at Owairaka School, Room 20 teamed up with the lovely Room 12 to take responsibility to clean up two areas of our school. The students worked extremely hard and did a very thorough job. Awesome work Room 20 and Room 12! Well done on doing your part in looking after our environment!
